First, and closest to my heart, the dogs. This is Ozzie, a beagle cross who won the hearts of the locals when I took him offsite to meet them yesterday.
And then there's the cats, a shifty-looking bunch if ever I saw one. I'm really not sure about this lad, who seems to be giving me a very long, calculated consideration. He may be about to order a Hit on me.
This is the alpha male goat, an elusive individual who tried his best to resist my photographic advances. I leapt out from behind a tree, banging a tin can to get his attention on this one.
Of course, once I told him I could do moody black-and-white, he was all smiles. I think he's channelling Christopher Walkern at this point.
These ladies had an off-putting habit on shuffling forward on their knees as they nibbled the grass. It was odd to see. Perhaps I should have videoed it?
These two donkeys seemed to be whispering a lot. I'm not sure if they were coaching each other for the shot, or asking if I'd gone yet. Either way, they ate a lot of grass.
The mice in the small animals enclosure were tricky. They've taken to hiding inside painted ping-pong balls. I mean seriously, would you have known? Isn't nature wonderful?!
A final shot as I headed home; as the sun descends, feral cows emerge from their moorland burrows and survey their domain. Probably.

I think by the time you arrived at the pool table you were seeing things lol. The goat most definitely has charisma.
ReplyDeleteHey Delores! You're right. He's the king of the hill, a handsome and distinguished lad, and knows it. Tho I swear I'm right about the mice! Indigo x
DeleteYou're cracking me up here! Feral cows, indeed. A boy goat with an awesome haircut. Mice in ping pong balls that photographed a lot like pool balls - what's that all about? And a homicidal cat.
ReplyDeleteThat doggeh is simply sweet, though. No funny business there.
Thanks for the great shots. Hope your week brings you smiles, too.
Hey Jenny! Feral cows and their incessant digging are a huge problem in the East of England. I have no idea who supplies their shovels. Indigo x
DeleteThese are wonderful! Yes, the cat is clearly considering your motives. And what a lovely beagle. No one will be able to resist that face for long. I didn't realize there was such a diverse group of animals there. So glad you're enjoying yourself. :)
ReplyDeleteHey Jayne! Yes, it's totally its own reward. There's also chipmunks, ferrets, ducks, geese, and wild rabbits. My weekends would not be the same without them =) Indigo x
DeleteHari Om
ReplyDeleteOZZIE OZZIE OZZIE....OI OI OI!!! oh... and glad you worked some photographic charm on the rest... oooozzzzzziiiiieeeeeeee....... YAM xx
Sooooo... You like Ozzie? =D The goat was cantankerous, but well, it's a goat. I had to use a triangle on the mice, but... Indigo x
DeleteWhy Indigo you han'some old dog you. It must be hard to be out with Ozzie and not be the center of attention for once. He's a charmer to be sure, although perhaps you just had a slice of extra meaty near to hand for this shot.
ReplyDeleteThe cat is a handsome fella too and again that look is similar to yours when extra meaty is nearby.
The goat is a wise looking fellah. Would his name be Gandalf by any chance? Were the others just kneeling before you? Maybe the donkeys were taking the mick by copying them.
Oh - bloomin mice! What are THEY like?
No pizzas were harmed during the making of this blog entry. Sadly.
DeleteYou do such an amazing job of capturing these animals' personalities.
ReplyDeleteMice in ping pong balls. Who knew?
Hey Dawn! Thanks, glad you like them. They are pretty darned cute, especially that damned goat =) Indigo x
DeleteFavorites at any shelter? I always vote for the dogs as my top pick, followed closely by the goats. As for the cats... meh. You've captured the essence of each of these creatures perfectly.
ReplyDeleteHey Paula! I work with the dogs, so I guess I already voted =) As for goats, they ARE very compelling... Indigo x
DeleteExquisitely beautiful as always - especially the feral cows. Have an awesome day, Indigo.
ReplyDeleteHey Kathryn! Thanks, that twilight scene was pretty surreal, even without the ladders in it =) I'm glad you enjoyed the pics, Indigo x
Deletehmmm... that didn't appear to post, if this is a duplicate feel free to delete!
ReplyDeleteawesome photos - as always - but yes, beware the cat! he does have something up his sleeve!
Hey Eolist! I posted the cat photo elsewhere with just that sentiment, but got shouted down. They're all innocent fluffy things, apparently, and not furry sociopaths. And thank you =) Roth x
DeleteWeird... I posted but don't see it. Here is what I wrote... delete if it is a duplicate!
ReplyDeleteI am actually kinda choked up here, very seriously. My heart goes out to all animals. I wouldn't be able to work in a pound as a volunteer... it would KILL me. But I might have mentioned before, my daughter and I finally decided to foster for the dog rescue she volunteers for. We are waiting until they need a home and we will be the one. We can't be "full" volunteers until we close the beach house - so it might not be until December because we need to be able to bring the foster dog to the adoptions on Saturdays. Going to be hard falling in love with a dog and letting it go... but when they get a forever home we can then get ANOTHER dog out of doggie prison.
Your pictures are AWESOME. So moving actually - and then funny on top of that! What an interesting bunch of animals... not just your typical dog/cat/guinea pig/bird. But goats!? And Donkeys!? COOL!!!!!
I'm sorry, disappearing comments have hit a couple of you this week.
DeleteI've said it before: you're doing an amazing thing with the fostering. It's so important for them.
And yes, the diversity is amazing. The old goat in these pictures is a real card. Those horns! That beard!
Indigo x
I am also quite taken by Ozzie. Next year... I'll think about getting a rescue dog next year....
ReplyDeleteSx
Yes! You NEEEEEED a doggie! =) Indigo x
DeleteI'm glad you are working at the shelter....I suppose goats and donkeys and feral cows will be turning up in your writing, as well.
ReplyDeleteHey Nancy! It's funny you ask... I had a vision of the goat in a trilby, as a kind of cockney wheeler-dealer guy, a bit of a "dodgy geezer" as we say over here. A heart of gold, obviously, but quite a character. Now I just need time to write about him... Indigo x
DeleteYou really have to watch out for those feral cows. I don't suppose you're ready to add one to your virtual menagerie?
ReplyDeleteI don't know, Paula. They tend to come in herds. Unless one was anxious or antisocial. Hmmm...
DeleteIt's been a while since we've seen you here....hope this means you are busy writing writing writing and that all is well with you.
